Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are a cultured pearl and produced in fresh water rather than saltwater.  A tiny bead is implanted into the mussel so that over time the mussel coats the pearl with many layers of proteins and minerals.  Freshwater pearls are formed naturally and are therefore generally not as round as saltwater pearls and this is what gives them their unique shape and colour.
