Sterling Silver is a mixture of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper or other alloy. These proportions are fixed by law and never vary. Sterling Silver will "patina" over time which means it will take on an antique look. Tarnishing cannot be eliminated altogether but storing jewellery in an airtight plastic bag will help slow the process. A silver cloth can be used to clean jewellery.
People who have allergic reactions to some metals can often wear sterling silver jewellery and not be affected.
